Madison New Music Festival at Memorial Union Terrace: Chartreuse Duos

  • Memorial Union Terrace (map)

On Saturday, August 12 at 3 PM, the Festival goes to the Memorial Union Terrace for FREE event, generously cosponsored by WUD Music! Join us to hear:

-Local wind quintet Black Marigold play a work they commissioned, "Beer Music" by Brian DuFord inspired by different kinds of beer-- and you can sip as you listen!

-A percussion quartet from local percussionist/composer Dave Alcorn, played by the composer himself (and friends)!

-Chicago-based new music ensemble Chartreuse, who will this time play a work by emerging composer Andy Akiho, and their own interactive treatment of very old music from Orlande de Lassus.

-Local percussionist Garrett Mendelow plays a piece by Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche, and a piece for vibraphone and electronics by Bruce Hamilton.

Sit back, kick back a beer, and listen to fresh sounds on the lake!

About the Festival:
Started in 2016 by Juilliard-graduated composer and Madison native Zachary Green, the Madison New Music Festival aims to strengthen Madison’s cultural vitality through the celebration of contemporary works. The festival presents brand new pieces by the world’s leading and emerging composers, shares underplayed classics of the contemporary repertoire, and shines a spotlight on new music created here in Wisconsin. After a highly successful inaugural concert in August 2016 at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, the MNMF is expanding this year to feature four exciting concerts throughout the city of Madison over the weekend of Thursday, August 10- Saturday 12, 2017. The festival will feature over 15 different performers and ensembles, playing works by living composers from around the world, as well as from right here in Wisconsin-- all for ticket prices of just $10 or less (Union Terrace performance is free).
